This picture is an illustration to ‘The Nights of Strapola’ which was translated into English by W.G.Waters in the 1890s. The original stories were published in Venice between 1550 - 1553 by Gian Francesco Strapola and were similar in similar in style to Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’.
